The Friends of the Sausalito Community Gardens is a local organization dedicated to establishing public garden spaces and building community through growing food. Our mission is to:
Cultivate and strengthen community relationships through the shared experience of gardening together for community benefit.
Teach Sausalito residents how to grow their own organic food.
Offer a new source of organic produce to share with each other and donate to local food banks.
Create a space to teach and learn ecological principles.
Develop a community space to display local garden art.
Help other local groups develop their own thriving gardens to support a strong network of community based gardens accessible to more people.
Create a garden space that influences young gardeners to grow and eat healthy food and learn about the environment through partnership with Sausalito schools.
Partner with a variety of nonprofit organizations, parks and recreation departments, schools, colleges and civic and faith-based groups, to empower people through gardening.
Share information and resources to foster a supportive climate for community gardening through garden activities and our website.
Offer technical assistance to individuals and groups working to establish sustainable community gardens through local workshops, training and networking.
Use organic, ecologically sustainable methods to grow produce, herbs and flowers.
